The Lost Shoe
by Nanci Rainey

I spent the day at the zoo,
that is where I lost my shoe.
It wasn’t with the polar bears
or with the rabbits, or the hares.
It wasn’t in the lion’s den.
It wasn’t in the zebra’s pen.
The tiger didn’t take my shoe,
neither did the kangaroo.
And when I asked the tall giraffe,
he shook his head, and then he laughed.
Penguin said he had no clue.
Who would want to take my shoe?
Ape said check with chimpanzee.
He saw my shoe behind his tree.
I asked the chimp to give it back,
he said it was his midnight snack.
Now it’s time to leave the zoo.
I’m walking home with just one shoe.
