Little Puffin by Teresa Hall

I am a little Puffin living in the hills,
waiting for my supper full of fishy gills.
Sooty is my color, borrowed deep I hide,
greeted by a rainbow when my parents come inside.
One day I’ll look like they do and stay far out to Sea,
then I’ll meet my life mate and find our destiny.
I’ll greet my mate with head nods and flash my rainbow smile,
then we’ll burrow in the hillside and raise our Puffin child.
